Project Title: Implementing Title IX in Brooklyn Public Schools
Girls for Gender Equity in Sports (GGES), is a nonprofit organization, founded in 2000. It is committed to mobilizing communities of color to ensure the overall health and safety of young girls. They create opportunities for girls to play team sports, and work towards their goals through a combination of advocacy, leadership and self-esteem development. With assistance from the FAR Fund, GGES will work to ensure that Title IX of the Education Amendment is implemented in three Brooklyn elementary and middle schools mandating that community schools and centers give girls equal opportunities, equal access, encouragement and a safe place to participate in team sports.

Project Title: The Bushwick Student Union (Youth Power Project)
Make the Road by Walking is a nonprofit membership-led organization based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Its members are low-income, Latino and African American residents of all ages, who work to improve conditions in the neighborhood. A FAR Fund grant will be used to support the work of the Bushwick Student Union and to increase the number of students working with it.

Project Title: Parent Support Organization and Child Abuse Prevention Public Information Campaign
The Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership (NMPP) is a nonprofit organization working with a network of public and private agencies, community residents and businesses. NMPP provides crucial services to women and children in Central, West and East Harlem and Washington Heights to prevent infant deaths and help women take better charge of their reproductive, social and economic lives. Support from the FAR Fund will be used to develop a community mobilization and public health campaign to reduce child abuse in 14 buildings of the St. Nicholas Housing Project.

Project Title: Partnership for Family Supports and Justice
The Child Welfare Fund and the Open Society Institute initiated the Partnership for Family Supports and Justice, a funders’ collaborative, which now includes seven foundations. With support from the FAR Fund, the initiative will implement a new approach to child welfare in Highbridge in the Bronx. The project will train neighbors to help each other and will make a broad range of services available to all children and families.
